The Most Comprehensive Ski Test – Independent and Unbiased
Describing our Independent Ski Test year after year is no easy task. However, with each edition reaching more skiers worldwide, it’s worth explaining why this is the most in-depth and unbiased ski test you’ll find.
Every season, we introduce innovations and welcome new ski brands to our testing lineup. The event takes place in Kaunertal Glacier, Austria—an ideal location offering consistent snow conditions, wide slopes, and the best setup for testing over 100 pairs of skis.
Why Are Ski Tests Important?
In today’s world, buying expensive products without proper research is almost unthinkable. Just like you check battery life and camera quality before buying a smartphone, choosing the best skis should be based on more than just marketing slogans.
Ski manufacturers will always promote their products as the best, but the reality is that not every ski suits every skier. Our test provides detailed reviews to help you find the perfect skis for your skill level, weight, and skiing style.
Unlike many other ski tests, we provide the most comprehensive ski descriptions—because a simple score cannot fully capture how a ski performs on the mountain.
Each review includes:
✔️ Which skiers will benefit the most? (Lightweight vs. heavier skiers, advanced vs. intermediate, racers vs. comfort-seekers)
✔️ How does the ski perform in real conditions?
✔️ What are the strengths and weaknesses compared to other skis in the category?
If you’re searching for the best skis for 2025, you’ll find everything you need right here.
How We Test Skis
Our ski test isn’t just a free-for-all where testers grab any skis they want. Instead, testers are divided into specific groups, each named after wild animals: Pumas, Snakes, Boars, Lions, etc.
Each day, a group tests a different ski category. Our categories include:
🏆 Racing Skis:
- Masters GS skis
- FIS Slalom skis
- Commercial GS skis
- Commercial Slalom skis
🎿 All-Mountain & All-Round Skis:
- VIP category (top-tier performance skis)
- All-Mountain skis
- All-Round skis
- Women’s skis
Testing Process:
🔹 Skiing is structured from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM in assigned groups.
🔹 From 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, a “free ski” session allows testers to try any ski they wish.
🔹 If weather conditions change, adjustments are made to ensure proper testing.
Each skier takes multiple runs on every ski, repeating the same turns and skiing conditions for accurate feedback. If a ski isn’t prepared well or a tester needs another go, additional runs can be arranged.
To maintain fairness, testers must ski on the same slope for each category, ensuring direct comparisons between different models.
Who Tests the Skis?
The test team includes:
✔️ Experienced skiers and ski instructors
✔️ Former ski racers
✔️ Retail professionals specializing in ski gear
✔️ Ski industry experts
Many of our testers have participated in the event for over a decade, refining their ability to provide accurate, real-world ski reviews.
We originally collaborated with large German and Italian ski magazines, but over time, we decided to conduct our own independent ski test to ensure honesty and transparency.
Today, our Independent Ski Test is recognized for its objective results and detailed feedback, making it one of the most trusted ski tests in Europe.
Why Do We Test Skis in Kaunertal, Austria?
Many people ask us: “Why Kaunertal?” The answer is simple:
🏔️ Reliable Snow Conditions – Kaunertal Glacier maintains excellent snow until May, making it one of the most consistent locations for ski testing.
🎿 Varied Terrain – The glacier offers everything from wide, gentle slopes to steep race courses and off-piste opportunities.
🚦 Low Crowds – Due to the challenging road access, Kaunertal avoids mass tourism, creating an ideal environment for focused ski testing.
🏠 Perfect Setup – Our team has a dedicated wooden cabin at the glacier’s parking area, providing an organized space for ski changes and tuning.
With the support of the resort staff and perfect ski conditions, Kaunertal is our go-to location for the best ski test experience.
Who Prepares the Skis?
Each ski brand can send their own technician or rely on our trusted Super Serwis team from Warsaw, Poland.
The team, led by Wojtek Fronczak, ensures that every ski is professionally tuned and tested under optimal conditions.
After each testing day:
✔️ Bindings are checked and adjusted
✔️ Edges are manually sharpened
✔️ Skis are waxed and prepped for the next day
Thanks to this professional approach, every tester gets the best possible ski performance for evaluation.
